Recent Bantam Minor 2010 News

Boston Massachusetts & Rochester New York, --  Three Little Flyers teams opened their seasons heading up north to the AAA Superseries Boston Breakout and Just Get Good Kick Off Classic.

2010 Bantam Minor -  The 2010 Little Flyers were in Boston for the Boston Breakout, their first official games at the Bantam minor checking level.  The team went 4-1 on the weekend with some dominating wins later in the weekend.  The lone loss of the weekend came in game one against the Spartans Performance Academy by a final score of 4-1.  Sean Devine scored the lone Little Flyers goal in the contest with goaltender Jackson Toscano making 31 saves. 

Noah Russo picked up a 4-2 victory in net for the Little Flyers in game two against the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack.  The offense was started with Cooper Donelson’s first period goal assisted by Sam Steeves and Luke Andress.  The Wolfpack answered back and tied the game at 1-1 in the second period.  Sean Devine regained the Little Flyers with his second unassisted goal of the weekend.  Christian Henzel and Luke Andress scored back-to-back goals early in the third period to take a commanding 4-1 Little Flyers lead.  Hartford cut into the lead with five minutes left in the game, but it was too little too late as the Little Flyers held on for the win.

The final three games of the showcase were dominated by the Little Flyers as they posted three consecutive shutouts in convincing fashion.  Against the New York City Hockey Club Jackson Toscano was lights out in net making 15 saves.  Down the other end of the ice, the Little Flyers lit the lamp seven times.  Cooper Donelson led the way with two goals, James Brown Luke Andress, Christian Henzel Mason Stallings and Nolan Hirshka each scored a goal in the game as well.

The Little Flyers offensive onslaught continued into game four, this time it was Russo posting the 13 save shutout against the Boston Jr. Eagles.  Luke Andress dominated the game with four goals, getting helpers from linemates Nolan Hirshka and Chase Mitchell with defenseman Christian Henzel assisting on one of Andress tallies.  Sean Devine added two more goals to his weekend total, while Ethan Holmes and Sam Steeves each added a goal to the 8-0 Little Flyers win.

 In the final game of the weekend it was another Little Flyers 7-0 shutout, this time over the New England Stars.  Russo and Toscano split time in the net, combining for a 16 save shutout.  Devine continued his solid offensive play scoring a natural hat trick.  Caleb Clough and Sam Steeves each scored two goals in the game to add to their totals on the weekend.  Brody Campbell, Hirshka and Devine all registered one assist in the game. 

2011 PeeWee Major -  The 2011 team was in Rochester for the Just Get Good Kickoff Classic which featured some of the top 2011 talent in the country.  Jackson Steeves broke the scoreless tie with a first period goal assisted by Ryan Cooper.  Leading scorer from last season, Jack Koslosky picked up right where he left off, scoring a hat trick in the game.  Miles Matysczak scored an unassisted goal of his own to take down the Minutemen by a final score of 5-1.  Brady Beebe got the win for the Little Flyers in net only allowing one goal on the day.

Later that day, the Little Flyers faced off against the Utica Jr. Comets.  Parker Zinni started in net for Philadelphia but added his name to the scoresheet, picking up an assist on Randall Greener’s first period goal to put the Little Flyers up 1-0.  Greener’s goal started a streak of four straight for the Little Flyers with Jack Cummings, Koslosky and Miles Matysczak all scoring in the game.  Jack Cummings and Steven Pizzo were credited with assists in the game as the Little Flyers downed Utica 4-1 with Zinni collecting the win.

Koslosky and the Little Flyers powered past the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies in a back and forth 5-3 game on Saturday.  The talented forward scored his 5th and 6th goals of the weekend while Joey Pelle and defenseman Cole Wray each scored their first of the tournament.  Brady Beebe picked up his second win of the weekend in the game.  Jackson Steeves contributed his second goal of the weekend while Koslosky, Justin Carr and Randall Greener all picked up assists in the 5-3 win.

In a quarterfinal match-up against the Rochester Coalition Brayden Capecci got the Little Flyers off to a good start scoring the first goal of the game.  Capecci then chipped in with a primary assist on Bek Hart-Carmichael’s first goal of the weekend which Jack Cummings also assisted on.  The Coalition would not go away and they stormed back and were able to steal a 4-2 win over the Little Flyers knocking them out of the Championship bracket.

In the consolation round, the Little Flyers offense couldn’t get going against the Wolfpack who beat the Little Flyers by a final score of 5-0.  Brady Beebe and Parker Zinni split time in the game between the pipes as the Little Flyers get ready for AYHL action to begin in two weeks.

2014 Squirt Minor - The youngest Little Flyers team was in action at the AAA Superseries Boston Breakout tournament for their first official game action in the orange and black.  Facing off against the Boston Jr. Eagles in game one, the Little Flyers couldn’t get the puck past the stingy Jr. Eagles defense and fell by a final score of 8-0. 

The team bounced back in a big way against the Seacoast Spartans in game two taking down the Spartans by a final score of 5-1.  The game featured five different goal scorers for the Little Flyers Jay Dennis, Michael Gwaltney, Bennett Krysiak, Robert Heisler and AJ Fioravanti.  Wyatt Bouchard picked up his first win in net of the season.  Krysiak had a three-point afternoon adding two assists to his goal.  John Mader and Audric Berkheimer were also credited with assists in the game. 

In game three against the East Coast Wizards, Jaxson Crosby’s hat trick set the tone for the Little Flyers offense as they downed the Wizards 9-3.  Goaltender Wyatt Bouchard had plenty of help in front of him with two more goals from Robert Heisler.  Aj Fioravanti scored for his second straight game along with Bennett Krysiak, Jay Dennis and Michael Gwaltney.  Audric Berkheimer acted as a set up man, registering three assists in the game.

Later that day in a battle against the Vermont Jr. Cats, the Little Flyers battled back in the first period after trailing 1-0.  Robert Heisler tied the game at one a piece with an assist from Jay Dennis.  The Vermont offense controlled the second period, increasing their lead to 3-1.  Michael Gwaltney’s 3rd period goal assisted by Sean Hufford cut into Vermont’s lead but it was not enough as the Little Flyers dropped the game by a final score of 5-2.     

Bouchard and the Little Flyers defense had their hands full the next morning against the high-powered South Shore Kings offense who managed to put 54 shots on the Philadelphia goaltender.  The offense for the Little Flyers couldn’t get going as they were shut out by the Kings.
